The ride from Sunset Beach to Monterey was a short one, but between looking for bike shops, post offices (expecting a care packet), and Gatorade powders and taking side trips to the aquarium, Cannery Row, and Fisherman's Wharf, I had a full day even though I did not bike the famous Moneterey 17 mile Drive as I had originally planned.
While the weather was awesome (sunny blue skies in the 80's), my day did not go smoothly. I lost my mirror some time in the morning (probably when I took the helmet off during a rest stop). I also learned that the post office I had Mom mail the care packet was one of those sav-on in-store ones that did not take General delivery... And when I finally found my way to the main office, they told me that my package was most likely returned (it was). As for the Gatorade powder, I could not find any even after going through three markets. At around 2:30 pm, I finally gave up and had a nice, relaxing meal at Fresh Choice.
The ride up from the city to Vet's Memorial was all uphill, but it was worth it. The park is beautiful. I am going to get a good night's sleep and get ready for tomorrow's big ride through Big Sur.
One more thing, I met up with the German guy intent on the whole coast in four weeks again today. It's nice to meet a familiar face. We first met in Washington, and the last time I saw him was at River Walk at Fortuna.
