8/5/2003 8:15 pm, Vet's Memorial to Kirk Creek, 60.39 Miles

This has to be among the best day of my trip! I just finished watching the sunset by my tent. It is beautiful here. My campsite is near a little bluff by the ocean. Though Kirkcreek is a primitive, little campground - no showers and no phones (for 10 miles either way), I've got plenty company. I actually feel a little too crowded on this balmy summer night!

Today's ride was awesome. I had prepared for a hard grind, but I needed not have. The terrain turned out not to be a major issue, just the scenary. The clear blue skies, turqouis blue oceans, and spectacular coastlines were too distracting. I often had to stop every few turns just to gawk... Fortunately, the ride was otherwise smooth and uneventuful. I had a nice little breeze behind me all day and felt refreshed - felt no hints of saddle sore or muscle ache - at the end of the day.

I also met a guy called Brian who is just starting training in the army here at camp. Nice guy - gave him my email. Hope we'll keep in touch.
