7/9/2003, Vancouver, B.C.

I am finally in Vancouver! It has been a stressful 2-3 days. Packing up was stressful. Getting on the bus was stressful. I had to elbow through a packed LA GreyHound station - at midnight! The bus ride was stressful. There were numerous bus transfers - some scheduled and some apparently not. And the baggage handlers were rough (why did I pay the special bike handling fees anyways?). And the bus was cold, and I had packed all my clothes in the bike boxes, leaving little extra (just my raingear top) to wear.

I had also been worrying about assembling my bike at Vancouver. If the station were not anything like that in LA, I'd surely be mobbed or robbed before I could put my bike together...

Fortunately, Vancouver has been a pleasant surprise. The station here is nice, and I assembed my bike without incidents. Also, despite the fact that there are no bike lanes in the city streets and that there were some constructions around which I needed to take detours, I thoroughly enjoyed my ride through its downtown district, China town, bayside bike paths, and suburbs.
