7/11/2003 8:30pm, Birch Bay State Park to Bay View State Park, 62.56 miles

Today was supposed to be an easy day, but road closure (and subsequent detour attempts) and strong headwinds that lasted through most of the day made the ride difficult. I was spent by the time I got to Bellingham, before the hard part of the day had even begun!

Though the ride was hard, I had a great time. As promised, the route was very scenic. I thoroughly enjoyed the diverse scenaries (from bay views to lush forests). I arrived at camp slightly after 2 pm after paying a short visit to the nearby Padilla Bay Nature Center.

Tomorrow's ride should be short, with plenty of time for side trips. And despite today's fatigue, I am already looking forward to it!

At camp today, I met a guy who had biked the Pacific Coast twice. He wished me great weather all the way down th coast! He no longer bicycled but did show off his super gas efficient BMW motorcycle. I also met another guy called Mark who had been biking for 7 weeks from Wyoming. Hie was headed for Eugene to catch a wedding and to start school at the University of Oregon as a graduate student in environmental studies. One last note: I did fix my mirror holder yesterday, and it has worked great today!
