Today was much better! Much less headwind. Even the "frequent headwind" the book warned about along SR 8 and 12 turned out to be relatively mild.
As for traffic, highway 101 was ok today. There were still lots of traffic, but by being observant about blind corners, oncoming traffic, and upcoming shoulder conditions and by taking the proper actions (such as continuing riding, slowing down, or stopping), I was able to ride safely and even confidently.
I received the tire from Mom at 7:40 am today (I sat out waiting in front of the post office early, and some employee walked out to give it to me before they open). The tire change went smoothly, and I left Potlatch at around 8:30. Taking only brief rest breaks, I arrived at camp slightly after 2pm.
I didn't cook dinner today. I had some Kung Pao chicken I picked up at a Korean owned gas station in town. Lake Sylvia State Park is beautiful and peaceful. I look forward to a restful sleep and an early start tomorrow. I have decided not to head to Westport but to take a shortcut heading south on 101. The park ranger told me that the view was much better along 101 anyways - though the riding condition was "dangerous at best." No sweat, I had mastered dodging them logging trucks and RV's, right? [To be honest, most drivers have been very courteous and generous about giving me space. It's the few that don't that make the road dangerous for cyclists.]
